Article I: Name

.

The organization name is "Plano Educational Association of Christian Homeschoolers" and shall be known as "PEACH".

.


Article II: Purpose

.

The purpose of PEACH shall be to provide the opportunity for fellowship, socialization and informational exchange among home schooling families by:

.

  1. Providing moral and practical support for member families to assist parents in academically strengthening their children and in building character in their children.
  2. Exchanging resource and curriculum ideas because we understand that all children are not alike in every aspect of education, especially in terms of teaching material and methodologies.
  3. Forming field trips, events, group activities and learning & ministry opportunities.
  4. Establishing a network for communication of political and legal information and action in order to:

    • Be aware of and participate in the political process,
    • Protect the rights of member families and others to educate their own children at home without state regulation or control, and
    • Promote a greater knowledge of homeschooling in our society.

Article III: Statement Of Faith

.

  1. We believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired and the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God. (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:21)
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Gen 1:1; Jn 10:30; Jn 10:37-38; 1 Cor 6:19; Gal 4:6)
  3. We Believe in the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (Isa 7:14; Matt 1:23; Lk 1:35; Heb 4:15; Heb 17:25; Jn 2:11; Heb 9:12; Col 1:14; Jn 11:25; Acts 1:11; Rev 19:11-16)
  4. We believe that man is sinful by nature and that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential and an absolute necessity for his salvation. (Rom 3:19, 23; Jn 3:16-19; Eph 2:18-19; Titus 3:5-6)
  5. We believe in the continuing ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (Eph 4:30, 5.18; 1 Cor 6:19-20)
  6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they who are saved unto eternal life and they who are lost unto eternal damnation. (Jn 5:28-29)
  7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom 8:9; 1 Cor 12:12-13; Gal 3:26-28)
  8. We believe in the creation of man by the direct act of God. (Gen 1:26-28, 5:1-2)
  9. Affiliation Statement: "PEACH neither supports nor endorses the World Council of Churches, National Council of Churches, or any other world, national, or regional organization which gives Christian recognition to unbelievers or advocates multi-faith union".

Article IV: Membership And Meetings

  1. Prospective Members must read the Statement of Faith and sign the membership form indicating that they understand the guiding principles of PEACH and agree to abide by them in all matters concerning the governance of PEACH.
  2. Dues are expected per family in accordance with Article IV.5 and will be determined annually by the Board of Directors and approved by the membership in a regular business Meeting. Special provision will be made for those who desire to be members, but are not able to pay. Said family may request waiver of their annual dues by so informing any Board member of their need for a waiver (including a brief explanation of the need). The Board member receiving the request will so advise the Board of the waiver request and the Board, at its discretion, will approve or deny the request.
  3. Members shall receive a copy of these Bylaws, Newsletters, a copy of the Membership Directory, be allowed to participate in PEACH-sponsored activities, and be allowed to serve the membership of PEACH as they may be so led and gifted to do.
  4. The fiscal year shall be June 1 through May 31. Meetings will be planned by the Board of Directors, or their designees, in timing and content, and held each month from August to May unless otherwise specified in the Newsletter. Other meetings may be held as needed and determined by the Board of Directors.
  5. Membership dues and an application for membership are required from each family. Dues are one half after January 1st of each year. Discounts for renewals may be offered, at the discretion of the Board.
  6. Prospective members must be active home schooling families.

Article V: The Board of Directors

.

  1. Management of the affairs of PEACH shall be vested in a Board of Directors composed of no fewer than five (5) persons, each of whom has homeschooled for one year. These persons will serve in positions of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Communications Director, Activities/Groups/Fellowship Director, and Mentoring Director. Additional Board member positions may be created as needed and determined by the Board of Directors, and confirmed by the membership according to the provisions of Article VI. The Board of Directors shall set policy consistent with the rules and regulations prescribed herein.
  2. The Board shall meet at least quarterly or at the call and place, as the Chairman of the Board shall direct, or at the call and place of a majority other members of the Board.
  3. A majority of the Board shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business presented at any called meeting of the Board of Directors.
  4. All matters of policy shall be presented in writing to the Board.
  5. Terms of service will be for two consecutive years, and will not necessarily be restricted to the same office or Board duties during the term. These terms shall begin with a staggered election process where a simple majority of the PEACH Board is elected one year and the remaining Board members are elected the following year, in order to maintain continuity within the management of PEACH.
  6. All Board members must indicate their agreement with the Statement of Faith.

Article VI: Elections

 

  1. The Nominating Committee shall consist of the Board. The Board will seek and receive nominations for appointees who are willing to serve in place of retiring Board members. The Board will review the nominations and present a single slate of appointees to the general membership at least two weeks prior to the vote for confirmation. The vote for confirmation will take place by the last general meeting of the school year.
  2. The Nominating Committee will also serve as the Confirmation Committee, which is responsible for counting and certifying votes, and announcing the results. The confirmation process will be a simple majority vote of members present, where each member family is assigned one vote. No mailed-in or absentee voting will be counted.
  3. New officers assume their respective responsibilities on June 1. Retiring officers will leave a notebook and other useful resources to assist the new officers in their roles.
  4. Vacancies in the Board shall be filled by recommendation of the Board and approval of that recommendation by a majority vote of the general membership at a regularly called meeting of the voting membership - one vote per family.

Article VII: Officers and Duties

 

  1. The President shall:
  • Be a homeschooling parent whose family has met the basic requirements for service on the Board as outlined in Article IV.
  • Preside over all meetings of the Board of Directors as Chairman of the Board, and over all general membership meetings as Moderator, and all other PEACH functions, as appropriate.
  • Be familiar with these by-laws and see that they are adhered to, enforced or amended.
  • Arrange representation at homeschool bookfairs and conferences and/or other appropriate meetings.

 

  2. The Vice-President shall:

  • Work closely with the President and be prepared to assume the duties and responsibilities of the President and/or to perform his duties for the time required and as the Board may direct.
  • Work the PEACH Board in developing programs for the annual seminar, the Christmas fellowship and the May recital/business meeting.
  • Work with the PEACH Board in securing directors and coordinators, as needed.
  • Coordinate the location for monthly meetings.

 3. The Treasurer shall:

  • Deposit the funds of the Association with the financial institution designated by the Board and disburse same under the direction of the Board.
  • Deposit checks within two weeks of receiving them.
  • Make a financial report at each regular Board Meeting.
  • Present to the Board a budget to be voted on for the year by November 1.
  • Keep accurate records of all incoming and outgoing money.
  • Have an accounting background.

 4. The Secretary shall:

  • Record the Minutes of all meetings of the Board of Directors and keep them filed appropriately.
  • Send letters, notices, etc., as needed or required, on behalf of PEACH.
  • Keep an accurate, current list of all members and consult with Directory Coordinator on a regular basis to confirm that all paid members are in the PEACH Directory-Newsletter database.
  • Provide list of members to other Board members, committee personnel and other selected individuals/organizations as determined by the Board, to aid in planning events and activities or for other reasons determined appropriate by the Board and in accordance with stated PEACH guidelines.

Directors. Work with their assigned coordinators and the board, attend board meetings, locate replacement coordinators for their areas, and are their coordinators' 'go to' person on the board.

  •  Communications Director. Updates the PEACH phone messages and retrieves and routes voice mails left on the phone. Reviews materials sent in for inclusion in the weekly PEACH flash e-mail. And works with the following areas of responsibility.
    • The Newsletter Editor shall:
      • Receive information from various sources (NTHEN, HSLDA, THSC, etc.); edit, design and prepare the monthly newsletter for printing and distribution.
      • Communicate printing deadlines, addresses and other pertinent information so that all members have opportunity to submit items for inclusion in the newsletter.
    • The Directory Coordinator shall:
      • Maintain a current database of membership with the help of other Board members.
      • Prepare and publish the PEACH Directory and updates, as appropriate.
    • The Public Relations Coordinator shall be responsible, under the direction of the Board of Directors, for maintaining a consistent contact with various media to inform the public about PEACH and to represent homeschooling in a positive way to the public.
    • The Webmaster shall be responsible, under the direction of the Board of Directors and working with all other leaders within PEACH, for implementing and maintaining a PEACH World Wide Web site.

  • Activities/Groups/Fellowship Director.  Works with the following areas of responsibilities. 
    • The Field Trip Committee/Coordinator shall:
      • Plan, arrange and approve all field trips, activities and events for PEACH.
      • Keep the membership informed of programs and/or local activities that are available and/or of interest and prepare for the newsletter a list of those activities/events planned for the appropriate months, including information needed by members to participate in each.
      • Mail out "Thank You" notes, as appropriate.
    • Used Book Sale Committee. Coordinates the annual PEACH used book sale.
    • Sponsored Groups. PEACH sponsors a number of groups for the benefit of PEACH members and the homeschool community. These groups follow their own rules and by-laws as required by their organizations. PEACH provides oversight or coordination as appropriate.       • Helps the Vice President with the Fellowship aspects of the Christmas Fellowship and works with fellowship functions such as:
        • Park Days
        • Roller Skating
        • Ice Skating
        • Bowling
        • Pizza Lunch, etc.
        • Soccer, other sports teams as needed.

  • Mentoring Director. With a team, puts on the bi-monthly meetings (August thru April). Selects topics and arranges speakers/panels of interest to PEACH members. Maintains a list of volunteer mentors. Matches new members with mentors as needed. Additionally, if the officers of the board should end a vote in a tie, the Mentoring Director casts the tie breaking vote.
    • Directors will submit any proposed budget items to the Treasurer by October 1.
    • Retiring Directors will leave a notebook and other useful resources to assist the new committee members in their roles.

Article VIII: Amendments

.

  1. These by-laws shall become effective upon unanimous approval of the Board of Directors and ratified by majority (50% + 1) of the member families present and voting at a general meeting (one vote per family). These by-laws may be amended by unanimous decision of the Board and ratified by three-fourths (3/4) vote of the member families present and voting at a general meeting of PEACH, provided that written notice of the proposed amendment is published in the PEACH Newsletter or on the PEACH web site (with appropriate notification) at least one week in advance of the meeting.
  2. No mailed-in or absentee voting will be counted. Members must be present to vote.

Article IX: Procedures

Robert Rules of Order, Newly Revised, shall govern all parliamentary matters of PEACH Meetings. In all matters requiring discipline of a member, such discipline will be determined by the Board of Directors and carried out in a manner consistent with Matthew 18: 15-17.


Article X: Dissolution

In the event of dissolution of PEACH, all liabilities and obligations shall be paid, satisfied, discharged, or adequate provision made therefor. Any funds remaining in the treasury at that time shall be given to another homeschoolers association as determined by the Board of Directors. Agreed to by the unanimous consent of the members of the Board of Directors present the 11th Day of May in the Year of our Lord, Two Thousand Four.
